Recipient set up & Protocols

The foundation of a successful transfer is ensuring your recipients are perfectly synchronized with the donor or the age of the frozen embryo.

• Whether detecting natural heats or a fixed-time ET protocol, shots must be given on time – down to the hour.
• Set up recipients using the 7&7 Synch Protocol (heifers & young cows) or 7 Day co-synch + CIDR (mature cows).
• Recips should be slowly gaining weight leading up to the transfer window to optimize uterine receptivity.
• Utilize heat patches, but don’t fully depend on them.
• All injections must be given intramuscular (im) – use 18 x 1 ½ needle
• Use the RECIP SET-UP CALCULATOR for accurate sync and transfer schedules based on your target transfer day.

Heat Detection & Response tracking

Accurate heat detection is the most critical variable when using fresh embryos or heat-passed frozen transfers.

• Gathering heat data throughout the day and scheduling your transfer tech accordingly will greatly increase your conception rates. We like to heat checks at 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm & 9pm. Provide this information to your transfer technician.
• While checking heats – use the RECIP HEAT CALCULATOR to log standing heats, determine your exact transfer window and identify which stage of embryo will be the best fit for this recip, come transfer day.

Pre-Transfer Prep & Matching

Don’t wait until the tank is open and the embryologist is waiting to decide which embryo goes into which cow. Pre-planning eliminates chute-side stress, increases conception and prevents costly mistakes.

• Review freeze sheets days ahead. Know what qualities, breeds and stages you have available.
• Group your recips by their heat response day/time and consider BCS and past recip history. Assign your highest-quality embryos to your tightest-responding recipients.
• Transfer stage 6 embryos on day 7, stage 7 embryos on day 8. If you don’t have access to your freeze sheet, transfer seven days of standing heat – to the hour.
• Use our TRANSFER PRIORITY SCHEDULER to match your freeze sheets to your recips. Send a copy of the schedule and your freeze sheets to your embryologist prior to arrival. Also, have printed copies chute-side.

Donor & Recip Management

• Full access to chelated minerals and salt
• Give a shot of multi-min 45 days prior to flushing/transfer
• Lessen exposure to environmental stressors
• Keep a body condition score of 5-7
• Treat your recips, like you treat your donors – they are THE most important part of the IVF process.
• Preg check at 30-45 days; again at 75-90 days to confirm pregnancy.
• Re-sync with CIDR (no shots) at day 14, apply heat patch. If in heat at day 21, transfer another embryo seven to eight days later.
• After CL is identified by a trained technician. Air dry embryo for 10 seconds, then submerge in 90 degree bath for 30 seconds.
• Watch your due dates; induce labor if pregnancy exceeds confirmed due date past 4 days.
